Healthcare Agency Case Study

Network Wiring

Overview

This job called for a mixture of skills and licensure, with the low-voltage work mostly consisting of network equipment. Unexpectedly, TechVoo found work that a previous electrician had done incorrectly. Nonetheless, the TechVoo team worked with the client company to get them up to code and replaced the incorrect wiring to make it code compliant.

Summary

The network will perform better and be easier to maintain.

The TechVoo team decommissioned and replaced old network switches to rearrange and organize network cables. As a result, the client’s new setup has less cable clutter, allowing for simple access.

Not only does the new network arrangement look better, but because of the enhancements and organization, the new network will perform better and be easier to maintain.

In this instance, TechVoo not only completed high and low-voltage wiring work as initially planned, but the team also caught mistakes from a former electrician and corrected them. TechVoo ensured the client company was covered when it came to unforeseen difficulties by working beyond the project's original scope.

Customers Solution

As usual, when dealing with electrical work, the TechVoo team pulled a permit to ensure compliance and safety. The low-voltage wiring work consisted mainly of CAT6 lines with network drops, including wall plates, RJ45 ends, keystone jacks, and additional parts required to run the lines. Additionally, the team installed a 48-port patch panel and a total of 18 3" patch cables.

Marketing Agency Case Study

Reorganize Office Wiring

Overview

This project required working with the client company’s corporate IT personally, remotely, and on-site to ensure the job was completed correctly. The main scope was a network room cleanup consisting of rewiring and relabeling cables to improve the marketing agency’s network setup efficiency. The client’s old setup was not ideal because of unorganized cubicle wiring, which was also enhanced.

Summary

Whether a business needs a wiring cleanup or an extra hand to complete a job, TechVoo has them covered on all fronts. If a company already has its IT covered, TechVoo can work with them to improve their current setup and offer expert advice. On this occasion, the marketing agency’s network wiring is much more efficient because it is now centralized and organized to be out of the way. Troubleshooting is more manageable, and maintenance costs are reduced.

Customers Solution

A fundamental aspect of this project was communicating with the client company’s own corporate IT. TechVoo team can work closely with a given company’s IT to accomplish a goal that might not have been achievable by a single group and can often recommend best practices moving forward. Here, the TechVoo team worked with the in-house IT group to map all existing cables to streamline the rewiring process and maintain accurate connections.

Once the TechVoo team mapped all the connections, they began cleaning up the network racks by removing all cables. Next, the team rewired the cables and reran the lines through a high ceiling. The team then relabeled the wire for consistency and faster identification. All wires mounted on cubicles were rerouted to boxes underneath each desktop for better organization and less clutter.

Since the TechVoo team maintained close communication with the client’s IT, both parties agreed on working after hours to accommodate server downtime. The TechVoo team scheduled their on-site work with this in mind, assuring they worked after regular business hours on several occasions. Lastly, the group replaced the old patch panels and reorganized the network racks while ensuring all connections were terminated and patched according to the port map.

Office Relocation Wiring Case Study

Overview

TechVoo not only helps businesses with their wiring needs, but we also assist with professional relocation services. In the case of a local land surveying and mapping company, the TechVoo team did both. Also located in Elk Grove Village, the client company needed to move to a new office and set up new wiring with custom keystone colors and a location-specific labeling system.

Summary

Everyone needs a helping hand when moving spaces. Dealing with tedious wiring on top of that only adds stress and complicates the task further. TechVoo offers expert help on both issues with a professional team that works hard to correctly get the job done. Thanks to TechVoo’s support, the client company relocated efficiently and without worrying about its network wiring.

Solution

First, the TechVoo team filed a permit with Elk Grove Village to ensure safety and local jurisdiction compliance. As a licensed contractor, TechVoo can always acquire a municipal permit for customers to guarantee every job is done correctly. The next step was to remove all the existing network overhead. This process required removing old data and voice cables in a high ceiling, in addition to proper removal of all wall plates and replacement with color-matched blank plates throughout. Once the team removed the old materials, it was time to add 76 new Cat5e Plenum Ethernet runs. The client requested custom colors for this job, for which the TechVoo team utilized blue for cable and white for voice keystones, with all Plenum wires matching this color scheme. Additionally, the team added four ceiling-mounted wireless access point (WAP) wire drops.

In terms of cable management, the team added J-hooks and bridle ring support to the wire runs. Furthermore, the team penetrated a cinder block in between 2 units to add a fire sleeve for the wire path. As a safety and organization measure, the group also added firestop going through the ceiling.

Finally, the TechVoo team installed 2-post 42U network racks and properly secured ladder racks overhead in the network room, along with 48-port patch panels.

Structured Cabling & Equipment Overhaul

Overview

The scope of this project was to declutter and improve the network wiring of a major broadcasting company’s offices in Los Angeles. The building where these offices are located has a unique triangle shape and required working on the 9th and 10th floor. The company’s IT wanted to clean up their network wiring by removing dead and unplugged cables, while also upgrading their equipment with new network switches.

Summary

The network will perform better and be easier to maintain.

The TechVoo team decommissioned and replaced old network switches to rearrange and organize network cables. As a result, the client’s new setup has less cable clutter, allowing for simple access.

The challenge--to avoid future disaster and downtime

Most businesses have at one time or another felt the pain of IT failure. No matter the source, preventive disaster control can be achieved with a correctly labeled and wired wiring rack.

Cat5 VoIP to giga-bit fiber cables are subject to damage over time and a well documented clean installation with labeling will get your IT systems back online.

Solution

Phase 1:

To organize the network wiring, the first step was to review the equipment being worked on, as well as port mapping the location of every wire to ensure each new connection was consistent.

Phase 2:

10th Floor: The TechVoo team removed the existing switch modules and labeled each wire that was left active on each switch to its corresponding port connection. The team rerouted all the ports that were on the old switches to the new core switch, which were installed with temporary patch cables. To improve cable management, wires with excessive length were replaced with ideal patch cables, inactive cables were removed, and custom cables were used to fill the remaining ports.

9th Floor: The team decommissioned the old network switches, rerouted the new cables from the production switch to the new core switch, and reran fiber lines as needed. Additionally, a new Opengear IM7200 Infrastructure Manager was set up and connected with the new core switch. The team also ran wires from the console ports and assisted in connecting the wireless controller to the core switch.

The network switches were upgraded from Cisco Catalyst 3500 and 6500 series to newer Catalyst 9410R switches.

Phase 3:

The patch cables on both floors were replaced and remapped to make way for new CAT 6 thin cables. The team ran 48 lines from the 9th floor to the 10th floor to allow for communication between the two. As part of further equipment decommission and improvement, all the Wireless Access Points were replaced. The TechVoo crew adjusted to the scope of the project by working around the clock to accommodate business hours across different time zones.
